Today is Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Today is National "Make A Friend Day." I hope you will take the time today to make a new friend - it's fun, easy and free!

Hey there Land Labers! Today is your day! Enjoy your special time spent learning from Mrs. Hinkle from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

We've got Recess For Science today with Mrs. King. You will learn all about the mysterious and silent rock.

It's Book Fair Week and today the following classes will visit:

Soon enough it will be springtime and that means it's soccer time! Soccer registrations are due very soon so if you would like to "have a ball" make sure you get those registrations turned in right away! There are more copies in the lobby.

Staff members remember that there is a staff meeting today after school.

For those members of the JMG club, you have a meeting after school today. Have fun!

If you're not going to the staff or JMG meetings, come on down to the TIE club meeting tonight at 6:30 pm. Encourage your parents and loved ones to join in on the fun. There's childcare provided so students should come too!

Tomorrow is Wednesday and that means we will have a Joke of the Day! Tomorrow we will hear from 2nd grader Spencer Heintz in Mrs. Hathaway's class. Yay for Spencer!

Speaking of tomorrow, we have a menu change to let you know of...Wednesday's lunch will be fish nuggets! YUM!!

Since it's "Make a Friend Day" I hope that you will go out of your way to make a new friend and don't forget to share your smile! :)

Middle School Announcements



ATTENTION PARENTS: When dropping students off in the morning, please do not park near the football field as that is teacher parking. Please feel free to pull in front of the school. Also in the afternoon, please do not drive behind the school building as we have fleets of busses that will be coming around the back for student pick up.
We appreciate your cooperation.

Birthday Wishes

There will be a short meeting for track during lunch this Thursday in Mr. McKitrick's room.

Please return conference forms to the office as soon as possible so Mrs. Lenz can get them scheduled.

Fourth grade Study Tables tonight in Mrs. Ickes room.

Attention 6th grade: If you need a computer to finish your calamity day assignments and you don't have a computer at home, then please go to Lunch and Learn to complete those assignments.

Valentine Candy Gram Sales - Candy Grams will be on sale at lunch time on the following days this week ...Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday and Tuesday next week. Candy Grams will be delivered on Thursday, February 13th (weather permitting). The prices are 50 cents each or 3/$1.00. The money earned from the sales will go toward helping a little baby that has recently received a liver and kidney transplant. The sale is sponsored by OHHS DECA and OAPSE Local #437. Be kind to your friends and family and buy them some candy grams!

Please help us celebrate FCCLA week by donating items for patient activities at Toledo Children's Hospital. Bring in $1.00 or a new set of crayons, coloring books, play dough, or stress balls during lunch to place your name in the raffle. These items can be brought in the rest of this week. Raffle itmes include two gift baskets and a chance for Mrs. Wittman to do your homework for one night. Raffle winners will be announced on Friday.

High School Annoucements

Today is the last day to purchase valentine's day flowers from the Marine Science class. Bring $2.00 for 1 or $5.00 for 3. Flowers can be purchased during lunches today and will be delivered the 13th.

The Ottawa County Rockets lost a tough game against Morrow County in Mt.Gilead 53-44. Jonas Hetrick had 16 points & 7 assists.

Second Quarter Honor Roll is hanging on the guidance office windows. Please check it out, if your name is not on it and you believe it should be, see Mrs. Diefenthaler.

Benton-Carroll-Salem Local School District Board of Education

Welcome to the Benton-Carroll-Salem Board of Education page. 

The following is the mission of our school district:

  Through engaging, cutting-edge, and student-centered learning opportunities, WE

  Believe each child can achieve success and all staff must remain ready to meet the needs of children;

  Challenge  all students and staff to be civic-minded leaders, problem solvers, and critical thinkers; and,

  Succeed when we work collaboratively with all district stakeholders to prepare our students for the challenges of higher education, training, the workforce, and   life in a democratic society.

Regular meetings of the 2018 Benton-Carroll-Salem Board of Education take place on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Board Office at 6:00 PM.  However, sometimes there are changes to the dates of meetings.  Please call the Board Office at 419-898-6210 for the latest information.

B-C-S Board Goals for 2017-2018

1.  To ensure every student achieves educational success

A)  Provide support to achieve highest ranking on the state report card.

B)  Continue to support intra-district service projects and peer mentoring opportunities.

C)  Continued quarterly updates on curriculum activities.

2.  To ensure that our financial resources are maximized with the use of tax payer dollars

A)  Maintain a budget that is fiscally responsible.

B)  Protect the B-C-S taxpayer's interest when it comes to funding and erosion of our resources by legislative mandates.

C)  Support efforts that protect our funding from any new legislation that may change how our public utility values are calculated.

D)  Continue to evaluate staffing needs and alternative ways of conducting business.

3.  To ensure that school environments are safe,  nurturing, and efficient

A)  Continue to work collaboratively with our facility committee, architects, and community to change, improve, and impact the overall student experience.

B)  Based on the decided facility plan, work with district administration and facilities committee to attain our long-term facility plan.

4.  To ensure that the community, parents, students and staff are engaged as partners in education

A)  Enhance community engagement through informing, consulting, and involvement.

B)  Support efforts designed to keep our community informed using all available media.

C)  Investigate all opportunities to change, improve, and impact the overall student experience.
