Good morning R.C. Waters!

Today is Monday, September 22, 2014

It’s “Word of the Month Monday!”  Responsibility has been a very important character trait in U.S. history.  Thomas Jefferson took the responsibility of writing the Declaration of Independence very seriously.   He knew that declaring independence from Great Britain meant that he needed to take his time and make sure everything was correct.  Martin Luther King felt responsible to encourage everyone to look beyond the color of skin and love everyone equally.  He wanted to make a difference in the world.  When tragic events happened in New York City on September 11, 2001, many police officers, firemen and firewomen, EMS personnel and other citizens were responsible with helping others out of dangerous situations.  They risked their lives to make sure that others lived.  They were very responsible.  Leaders are very responsible.

Joke of the Day selection

Tomorrow begins our “Zoo Pal” adoption drive.  Students and staff members are welcome to bring in money in a marked envelope that says “Zoo Pal” and the TIE group will count the donations.  Make sure that your envelope also has the name of the animal you are voting for, either a beautiful fruit dove, a lake victorian cichlid (a fish), a white lion or a fox snake.  The board in the lobby will show how close we are to meeting the goal of $200 and which animal is in the lead.  We will collect the donations all of this week.  I have a few fun facts to share about the beautiful fruit dove.  It is also known as the rose-fronted pigeon or crimson-capped fruit dove.  Lots of colors = beautiful!  It has a red crown, whitish throat, a greenish-yellow bill and purplish-red feet. It has a blue-grey breast and yellowish orange belly, with a reddish purple patch in between.  The female usually lays a single white egg.  Its diet consists mainly of various fruits from trees, palms and vines.

Make sure to grab your Apple Festival forms from the lobby.  The baking contest, talent show and kids run need you!

Picture day is Thursday and I hope that you are practicing your smile.  I also hope that you will bring in your picture envelope!

Make the day great R.C. Waters!!
