MONDAY

Good morning R.C. Waters!

Today is Monday, March 2, 2015

Birthdays

Happy belated, or late, birthday to the State of Ohio!  Ohio’s birthday was yesterday, March 1st.  That is the anniversary of when the first official state business was conducted for the first time.  That took place on March 1st, 1803 so that means that the State of Ohio is now 212 years old!   Happy birthday Ohio!

Word of the Month

It’s a new month and we have a new word to celebrate!  The word of the month for March is Fairness.  The definition of fairness is “valuing others’ feelings, words and actions and treating them with respect.”  We should practice fairness in our lives everyday.  We should remember the feelings of others with every choice we make.  It is easy to ignore what is important if we are excited about something but we should take a moment to think about the big picture.  Make sure to include “fairness” in your big picture.

Speaking of big pictures, I heard that the Movie Night on Friday was very well attended and “Big Hero” type fun!  Thanks to the T.I.E. group for giving us another fantastic Movie Night!

Tomorrow our 3rd grade friends will take the PARCC test.  3rd graders will be treated to a free delicious breakfast in the gym.  Get a good night’s rest tonight.  You will do great tomorrow!

Speaking of tomorrow, the kindergartner classes are celebrating Dr. Seuss by wearing red and white for the “Cat in the Hat” tomorrow.  So plan to wear red and white and honor the Cat in the Hat right!

Joke of the Day selection

On Wednesday I will be joined by the world famous Spencer Heintz from Mrs. Sage’s 3rd grade class.  I have read Spencer’s joke and it’s super funny!  We look forward to hearing Spencer share his joke on Wednesday.

Dr. Seuss night is coming up this Thursday, March 5th.  One very important part of that night is the Book Exchange.  From now until Wednesday, students may bring in their gently used books (please make sure you show your parents first!) You can bring in up to 5 books total to your teacher.  Then on Dr. Seuss night you can pick out and take home 10 different books from the book exchange!  WOW!  10 books!  Dr. Seuss night starts at 6:00 on Thursday night.  We will have wonderful guest readers to share their favorite stories with you.  One of those readers is Mr. Josh Janes. Mr. Janes is a professional author and illustrator.  Most importantly he is 2nd grader Cole Janes Dad!  So mark your calendar today to come listen to Mr. Janes read to one and all!

This week is Ohio 4H Week.  Since 4H began over 100 years ago their mission statement, or the reason why 4H was created,  is “4H empowers youth to reach their full potential, working and learning in partnership with caring adults.”  As we move through Ohio 4H week, I will speak to you about the many reasons how you can become involved by learning and working with caring adults to find your full potential.  To start our week off, I will recite the 4H pledge, which is what every 4H meeting begins with.  I invite all of our current 4H members, advisors and 4H alumni to please join me…”I pledge my head to clearer thinking, My heart to greater loyalty, My hands to larger service, and my health to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world.”  Happy Ohio 4H Week!

Make the day great R.C. Waters!!
